Tara Davison
Born and raised on the coast of Southern California, Tara Davison is a unique performer and musician. Daughter of composer Peter and dancer Iris, Tara had an artistic upbringing. She strives to bring new insight to the world of opera and innovation to current vocal stylings. Tara was the youngest finalist in the 2005 Metropolitan Opera National Council Western Region Auditions.
Tara specializes in vocal literature with guitar accompaniment. Performances in this realm include works by Benjamen Britten, Alfonso Broqua, Manuel de Falla and Ernesto Cordero. She currently studies classical guitar with acclaimed guitarist and professor Masakazu Ito.
Her operatic performances include roles such as Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Sister Rose in Dead Man Walking and Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore. In 2004, Tara made her international debut as First Lady in Opera Festival di Roma’s production of Die Zauberflöte. Tara has appeared as soloist with the Palisades Symphony and the Westside Junior Philharmonic. She has been featured soloist in concert and oratorio works such as Bernstein’s Chitchester Psalms, John Rutter’s Requiem and Bach’s Magnificat.
Tara has premiered various original works for soprano. Her vocal color and musicality are well suited to contemporary compositions. Her rendition of For Tara, With Love by Myra Moreta was recently broadcast on Colorado's KGNU radio station.
Tara has been recipient of financial incentives from the Metropolitan Opera National Council, Society of Singers, Phi-Beta , Palisades Symphony and Westside Junior Philharmonic. She has performed in masterclasses with William Vendice, John Hall and Blanche Thebom. She received her Bachelors of Music from California State University at Northridge in Spring 2006. She is currently working towards her Masters in Vocal Performance at University of Colorado at Boulder where she is a Berton Coffin scholar.
Tara’s vocal influences include a broad range of singers, from Maria Callas to Joan La Barbara, to Robert Plant and Janis Joplin. Tara’s biggest aspiration is to update opera making it accessible, understood and appreciated by the society at large. Singing is her absolute favorite thing to do!
